Michael Sperounes is a partner and a member of the Employment & Labor, First Party Property, Insurance Coverage, and Hospitality Practices.
Mr.Sperounes practices in the areas of hospitality industry defense, employment litigation,employee relations counseling,human resources policy development,management training,and professional liability.His areas of hospitality industry defense includes representing hotels and restaurants in litigation involving premises liability, negligent security, liquor liability,and employment disputes. His areas of employment law concentration includes wrongful termination, Whistle-BlowerAct, sexual harassment, employment discrimination and wage issues. Mr.Sperounes’ professional liability experience includes defending finance professionals, accountants, attorneys, design professionals, insurance brokers/agents, real estate brokers/agents, and sureties. He has experience representing management before federaland state courts and administrative agencies, in labor arbitrations and in private mediations. His experience includes providing counsel to public and private clients on compliance with employment laws and regulations,conducting and advising clients on investigations of harassment complaints,conducting management training on employment laws and fair employment practices,and advising clients on developing personnel policies and procedures.In addition,he develops,reviews and implements employment procedures,policies and agreements,and conducts internal investigations and resolution of claims.He works closely with his clients on key employment issues including at-will employment,employment handbook and policies, arbitration/non-competition agreements,employee substance abuse, employee privacy and breach of contract.
Mr.Sperounes’ interest in Employment Law began while a student at Stetson College of Law when he served as a Research Assistant for Dean Gary Vause. Mr. Sperounes’ prior legal experience includes the position of Tampa Managing Partner at a Florida regional insurance defense firm as well as several years working as a consultant with the United States Department of Justice.
Mr. Sperounes received his Juris Doctor from Stetson University College of Law,Florida, in 1989 and Bachelor of Arts from University of South Florida, Tampa,Florida,with a major in Political Science.While in law school, he managed Night Operations,MIS for Smiths Industries, a military avionics contractor for the Department of Defense and he interned with the National Labor Relations Board.
