Brent Jones is Special Counsel to Ullman Bursa Law, handling general liability cases including premises liability and trucking cases. He is a native Floridian and has practiced law for thirty-seven years, the bulk of which has been spent defending health care providers in various clinical settings, including acute care hospitals, long-term nursing facilities, physicians, nurses, and chiropractors. He began his legal career as an Assistant State Attorney in the Ninth Judicial Circuit in Orlando, where he developed his advocacy skills which translated well into his civil litigation career.
Mr. Jones also spent several years as a Plaintiff’s attorney, representing those injured as a result of medical and nursing home negligence as well as those catastrophically injured in trucking and motor vehicle negligence matters. This experience created a keen perspective which enhanced his ability to formulate effective and aggressive defense strategies when he resumed his practice as a defense lawyer.
Mr. Jones has also successfully handled cases involving premises liability, motor vehicle negligence, construction defects, and insurance coverage issues. In addition, he has done appellate work, including drafting briefs and providing legal argument in cases before the Fifth District Court of Appeals and the Florida Supreme court. Mr. Jones has achieved the highest rating of AV Preeminent from Martindale Hubbell.
Mr. Jones graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. He graduated from Loyola University School of Law in New Orleans, Louisiana with a J.D. degree, graduating in the top 15% of his class. He was on the Appellate Court Advocacy team and was elected to the Honor Court by his fellow students.
Mr. Jones is married to Vicki, his wife of 28 years. They reside in Sarasota. He is active in community matters in his hometown of Sarasota, including serving on the Sarasota Humane Society Board of Directors and as a volunteer for the “Meals on Wheels” program. He is an avid tennis player and enjoys traveling, attending plays, and wine tastings.
