Shaddrick A. Haston is a partner and member of the senior living practice group. He focuses on representing assisted living facilities (ALFs), home health agencies, and nursing homes in regulatory and administrative proceedings. In addition, Mr. Haston represents senior living communities in liability defense claims Mr. Haston has spent many years advising owners and operators on compliance, health care licensure, and best practices for health care facility operation. He has several years of experience consulting on the expansion of existing facilities, assisting, with initial licensure applications and Medicaid applications and assisting with change of ownership applications to ensure regulatory compliance.
Mr. Haston served as the Chief Executive Officer of the Florida Assisted Living Association (FALA) for 5 years, which is the largest and oldest assisted living trade organization in the State of Florida. Mr. Haston is the former head of Florida’s Agency for Health Care Administration’s Assisted Living Unit. As the head of the Agency’s licensure unit, he was responsible for the licensure of all assisted living facilities, adult family care homes and adult day care centers in Florida. Prior to heading the Agency’s Assisted Living Unit, he spent several years as an attorney handling nursing home, home health, hospital, clinical laboratory and assisted living cases for the Agency for Health Care Administration. Before his career at the Agency, Mr. Haston served as assistant Public Defender in Orange County, Florida where he handled felony trial cases. Mr. Haston has over 28 jury trials and 15 bench trials.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Haston served in the United States Navy as a hospital corpsman and received a Bachelors of Health Science from Campbell University. After graduation from Campbell, he attended Southern University Law Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana where he received his Juris Doctorate. He currently serves on the State of Florida’s State Plan Advisory Group on Aging and the Leon County Contractor’s Licensing and Examination Board.
